A SKELMANTHORPE man hanged himself after his relationship ended, an inquest heard.

Richard Mitchell, 35, was found dead by his flatmate on February 24.

The Huddersfield inquest heard that the truck driver, of Gibb Lane, had gone through a divorce and been down since his hours had been cut at work.

He became happier when he started a new relationship, but this was then ended on Valentine’s Day.

The inquest heard this caused Mr Mitchell a great deal of emotional trauma and, coupled with his concerns over work, contributed to his low mood.

Flatmate Ross Turner described Mr Mitchell as a ‘very private person’ who rarely talked about his problems. He said in a statement that although his flatmate’s relationship ended, he had tried to resurrect it in the days leading up to his death.

But he found Mr Mitchell hanging in his bedroom.

On his phone was the final text message ‘bye bye’, which had been intended for his ex.

Deputy coroner Mark Hinchliffe recorded that Mr Mitchell took his own life.

He said: "It seems that he kept things bottled up and wasn’t great about talking about his feelings."
