A MAN wrestled a knife from a gang of robbers as they attacked him in a street.

But the thieves had already managed to take his cash and jewellery.

The 45-year-old victim was getting out of his car at Carlton Road, off Halifax Road in Dewsbury, at 10.40pm on Tuesday when he was approached by four men.

One grabbed him and threatened him with a knife while the others took items of jewellery, including two gold bracelets, a gold chain and two gold rings. One of the rings is inset with a large red ruby and the other is a smaller signet ring.

Two of the attackers then ran off, but the knifeman and an accomplice remained behind.

The victim fought back and managed to get the knife and the other two then fled.

The victim was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital with slight injuries and later allowed home.

All the attackers are Asian. The knifeman is aged 19 to 22, around 5ft 10 inches tall, slim to skinny build with short cropped hair. He wore dark jeans and a black ribbed jumper.

The second is also 19 to 22, about 5ft 7ins, slim to medium build and one of his front teeth crosses over the other. He wore white trainers, dark jeans, a dark hooded top and a baseball cap. The other two are aged around 16 and about 5ft 6ins tall.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. The jewellery has a high sentimental value for the victim. Ring Dewsbury CID on 01924 431085.
