A man was hit in the face with an iron bar after confronting burglars in his home.

The 50-year-old man bravely tried to stop two men raiding his Batley home.

But he was left nursing wounds to his forehead and nose after the incident in Soothill Lane on Thursday lunchtime.

The man had returned to his home shortly after 2.30pm to find two men had broken in through a rear door of the terraced house and were searching upstairs rooms.

Det Insp George Bardell, of Kirklees CID, said: “He tried to tackle them but they fled after one hit him with an iron bar.

“He was hit in the face as he tried to stop them getting away”.

The intruders fled down Soothill Lane towards Batley.

Both were white men in their 30s and wearing dark clothing. One had a black baseball cap and was 6feet tall and slim.
