A DRIVER was trapped in the mangled wreckage of his van after it careered off a moorland road and down a steep banking.
The van rolled over several times as it plummeted 30ft down the banking before coming to rest on its roof against a telegraph pole.
The drama happened when the van left Oldham Road on a sharp bend just above Rishworth at around 1pm yesterday.
The crash site was about a mile from junction 22 of the M62 at Ripponden.
Fire crews had to stabilise the van by securing a steel cable to it from one of the engines.
The man’s condition was stabilised by paramedics before he was put on a spineboard and lifted up to the road.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance which landed nearby then flew him to Leeds General Infirmary.
The man, who is thought to come from the Ripponden area, was barely conscious throughout the rescue and his condition is not known.
Firefighters attended from Elland and Halifax.
