A MAN was badly hurt in a late night street attack.

The 19-year-old, from Scholes near Holmfirth, suffered a double fracture to his jaw when he suffered the unprovoked assault in Huddersfield town centre.

He was sitting on the ground eating a takeaway meal on King Street when he was approached by a group of men at 2.30am on Saturday.

They asked him if he had any cigarettes.

They walked away, but returned and one hit him in the face.

The victim fell forward and immediately coughed up blood.

Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "The victim was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but then transferred to Bradford Royal Infirmary because of the severity of his injuries.

"He had suffered a fracture to his jaw in two places.

"This was a totally unprovoked attack."

The attacker is white, in his early 20s with short bleached blond hair spiky on top.

He wore dark clothes.

His accomplice is white and in his mid-20s with short black hair and he wore a collar and tie.

The third man is also white.
