FIRE CREWS had to cut free a trapped passenger after another crash in Meltham Road today.

A Ford Fiesta and a Mini collided in a head-on smash near to a section of the road known as Healey House bends in Netherton just after 3am - the third accident in less than a week.

The stricken man in the Mini was trapped so fire crews from Huddersfield cut off the roof and used a ram to push back the bonnet and engine.

On Monday former Huddersfield University student Alex Prosser was killed after a collision with a lorry. The 27-year-old motorcyclist was on his way to work.

In another accident just 25 minutes later, four vehicles collided at Meltham Road in Lockwood at its junction with Armitage Road. Their injuries were not thought to be serious.

In today's incident four people were taken to hospital, two of them with serious injuries.

Police are investigating.
