A MARRIED man of 25 was jailed after a secret love affair with a 14-year-old Huddersfield schoolgirl.

Shahid Parvez was jailed for three years by a judge at Leeds Crown Court after admitting he was infatuated with the girl.

Parvez, of Wood Street, Huddersfield, pleaded guilty to two charges of unlawful sexual intercourse and one of abduction.

The court was told the pair ran away together and lived in hiding for three months in Bradford and in Leeds.

Parvez was told many times by the girl's mother to stay away from her but the affair continued.

The girl eventually became pregnant and had a termination, the court was told.

Mr Tom Storey, in mitigation, said that Parvez and the girl considered themselves to be in love.

He said Parvez had an arranged marriage which he did not want and had been shunned by his own family when they found out about the girl.

Judge James Spencer QC said Parvez was an intelligent man who knew full well that the girl was only 14 and a schoolgirl.

He should have had nothing to do with her but had instead started the secret relationship.

He added: "It was your responsibility as an adult not to encourage her but to discourage her."
