An inquest has opened into a road tragedy which claimed the life of an 80-year-old man.

Francis Geoffrey Drake, of Elland, died shortly after the crash on Lindley Moor Road, Lindley Moor, on the morning of July 7.

The hearing was opened at Bradford Coroners Court and adjourned for further police inquiries.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at around 10am that morning close to the Wappy Spring Inn.

Mr Drake was driving a green Renault Megane which was in collision with a blue Ford Focus.

The Focus driver, a 56-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which were not life-threatening.

Det Sgt Mat Tunney from the Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET), said: “I would appeal to anyone who was driving around the area near to Lindley Moor Road and may have seen either of the vehicles prior to the incident or anyone who witnessed the collision itself to come forward.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what took place.”
