A man who beat up his partner in an argument has been given a community order.

Sandor Ignacz, 32, of Cliffe Street in Dewsbury, left Csabane Kanya with a heavily bruised black eye, bleeding nose and facial grazes after attacking her during an argument at her house on Northway Gardens, Mirfield, on May 24.

Alex Bosnan, prosecuting, said Ms Kanya called 999 when Ignacz became aggressive and began to punch her.

He grabbed her phone and then attempted to flee but he was caught by police at the house.

Ms Kanya initially gave a statement but then refused to testify at an earlier court date.

A report by a probation officer stated that Ignacz said he lashed out after becoming frustrated with “his partner’s ill treatment of him” and now lives with a friend.

She added that he had expressed regret but “at his own situation rather than regret for her.”

Susan Collins, lead magistrate, sentenced him to a 12 month community order including 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay an £85 surcharge.
