A MAN has been arrested in Dewsbury over the bizarre case of a stolen dog.

The man was held at a house in Wroe Street, Dewsbury Moor, yesterday during an anti-crime blitz in the area.

The dog at the centre of the case was originally taken to kennels by Kirklees Council dog wardens last August but was then stolen from the kennels that same night.

Yesterday police, helped by council dog wardens, found the dog at a house on Wroe Street and a 29-year-old man was arrested for burglary.

He was also issued fines by the council for the seizing of the dog and for dog fouling.

The man is currently in police custody.

Dewsbury Neighbourhood Policing Team Sgt Janet Clemmett said: “This is indicative of the positive results we have seen elsewhere today in the Dewsbury Moor area and shows how partnership work with other agencies can make a marked difference for the communities of Kirklees.”
