A MAN has been ordered to pay compensation to his dad after damaging a door in a drunken argument.

Christian Finn, of Eastlands in Almondbury, admitted criminal damage when he appeared before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said before the incident Vincent Finn had called police from his Dalton home about his 22-year-old son.

He was concerned because Finn had become aggressive after drinking.

Mrs Schofield said: “He left the house and a couple of hours later returned.

“He and his father had an argument and his father told him that he could not live in the house anymore.

“Mr Finn then began throwing objects about the room, knocking glass that shattered on the floor.”

The prosecutor said that a glass panel in the front door was damaged, causing an estimated £150 to replace.

Sonia Kidd, defending, said that Finn had already been punished because he no longer lived in the family home.

She said that police had been concerned about her client because he said his drinks had been spiked.

District Judge David Scanlon told Finn: “You’ve only got one set of parents and you’ve probably put some distance between you and them.

“You’re going to have to try and close that gap again.

“You really need to keep your hands by your side when you’re having an argument with someone unless you want to end up without any opportunities in the future.”

The judge gave Finn a conditional discharge for six months.

But he ordered him to pay £150 compensation and £85 towards court costs.
