A man seen “wandering” in the road was struck by a 4x4 in Dewsbury, police said.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was walking on the A644 Huddersfield Road, near St Paulinus Church.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the man was struck by a Range Rover at about 7.25pm on Monday.

The man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with what were described as “non life-threatening” injuries.

The woman driver of the Range Rover was shocked but unhurt.

The spokesman said the man was reported as “wandering” in the road, near the junction with Watergate Road.

The Dewsbury-bound carriageway was closed until 9.30pm.
