A cyclist was fighting for his life on Sunday after being knocked from his bike in Honley.

The collision with a car at the junction of Huddersfield Road and Magdale saw the man, who police said was an elderly man, rushed to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

Insp Simon Brooksbank confirmed there had been an accident on Sunday morning.

He said: “An elderly gentleman was knocked off his bike on Huddersfield Road in Honley.

“We were alerted by the ambulance at 10.37am on Sunday. The man is currently very poorly and is being treated at Leeds General Infirmary.

“The driver stopped at the scene, but we’d be interested to speak to anyone else who witnessed the incident.”

The entrance to Magdale was closed off but re-opened after 2pm.

Any witnesses are urged to call 101 quoting incident 597 of July 3.
