A man was found dead in a Brighouse flat.
Police launched an investigation after his body was found in a property in Brighouse town centre.
Police were called to the block of flats and commercial premises on Bethel Street when the grim find was made at 1.30pm yesterday.
The man, who was in his 40s, was discovered by his mother in the flat which he rented in the complex which is accessed via the Bethel Street car park.
Police officers taped off the scene as the inquiry got under way.
An ambulance and a fire engine were also called to the scene.
The Examiner understands the man’s mother had raised concerns about her son’s welfare.
One tenant, who did not wish to be named, said: “I’d not heard about it until now. How awful. My thoughts are with the man’s family.”
A worker at the gym, PS4 Fitness, which has a rear entrance adjoining the flats said he arrived to find police and had heard someone in the flats had died.
Shoppers in the car park were virtually oblivious to the incident which was contained discreetly to the far corner of the car park.
The 20 flats are linked via a communal entrance off the car park.
Police said an investigation was under way but there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
Meanwhile, police are still awaiting the results of medical tests to determine how two women died in Calderdale.
The women, aged 56 and 69, were found dead at a house in Fenton Road, Halifax, on Good Friday.
Police said the deaths were not suspicious but they have been unable to confirm how the women died.
