SLIMMERS in Thornhill, Dewsbury, have organised a marathon 12-hour zumba session to raise cash for charity.

The event, in aid of the NSPCC, will be from 9am to 9pm at Thornhill Rugby and Community Centre, Brewery Lane, on Sunday, May 29.

Slimming World is running the zumba-thon as part of their annual ‘Miles for Smiles’ fundraising campaign.

This year’s national event is being led by Ben Miles, son of Slimming World founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell. He is currently in the middle of a 6,000km cycle across Europe to help disadvantaged children.

Joanne Jackson, of the Thornhill branch, came up with the idea of the zumba-thon.

She is appealing for zumba teachers to come forward and donate an hour of their time for the 12 one-hour sessions.

She said: “Every week my members were telling me about zumba. They can’t wait to get involved.

“We love getting active and we know that three or four sessions of moderate activity a week can boost weight loss by around one to two pounds a month.”

The one-hour sessions are open to everyone and cost £4 per hour.

Any zumba teachers interested in donating an hour of their time for the NSPCC on May 29 should contact Joanne on 01924 468645.
