CENTURY-old Margaret Dilley swapped a lifetime of memories with family and staff at Mount Havelock residential home.

Mrs Dilley celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday.

She was born just months after the Wright brothers carried out their first powered flight and has lived through two world wars, the rise and collapse of communism, and the space race.

Mrs Dilley lived most of her life in her native Leicester where she worked in her father's shoe manufacturing business.

One of six children, she had four younger brothers and an elder sister.

She married her husband Harold in Aylestone, Leicestershire, in the late 1920s. Harold died in the 1960s.

Her daughter Barbara Henderson lives in Oakes while son Brian still lives in Leicester.

Mrs Dilley has three grandsons: Richard, Philip and Gerard. All live in Huddersfield.

She also has three great-grandchildren.

Coming to Huddersfield about 20 years ago, Mrs Dilley lived in Newsome for 10 years before moving into Mount Havelock.

Her big day was marked with family and staff.
