A HOLMFIRTH singer is aiming for success in the Yorkshire Festivals Championship.
Marie Clare Johnson, 21, travels to the church hall at Darfield, near Barnsley, tomorrow to compete in the contest, which is in its first year.
It is run by the Yorkshire Federation of Festivals.
Judges at each of Yorkshire's music and arts festivals name a soloist to compete in the championship.
Marie was chosen by judges at the Holmfirth Musical Festival.
She has just completed a degree course in French, German and linguistics at York University, where she sang in the university chamber and college choirs.
She has just returned from a singing summer school in Germany.
Marie hopes to take an MA music course and her ultimate goal is become a professional musician.
She is a deputy second soprano with The Mastersingers group, who have members nationwide and record at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Marie is starting a new job working for the National Youth Choir.
