A man caused damage to a property and then drove off in car he had no licence or insurance for.

Hooded Mark McCartney was seen running to the Vauxhall Corsa late on July 5.

He pleaded guilty to charges of criminal damage and driving without a full licence or insurance when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The 21-year-old smashed the panel in a UPVC door belonging to Quarmby man John Finchett.

Mr Finchett was at his home in Royd Croft at 11.30pm when he head banging outside.

He went outside and another member of the public told him that he had noticed McCartney’s car with the doors open and the engine still running.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “He saw two figures in hooded tops leave the address, enter the vehicle and drive off.

“The witness provided the registration of the vehicle, police made further enquiries and as a result spoke to McCartney.”

Magistrates heard that prior to the incident McCartney, of Moorlands in Scholes, Holmfirth had been out of trouble for three years.

Magistrates heard that an ex-girlfriend of one of McCartney’s friends lived at the address.

On the evening he went round to speak to her, became angry and kicked the door.

Magistrates ordered McCartney, a cleaner at a supermarket, to pay £264 compensation for the damaged door.
