IT’S going to be war on the burglars and car thieves in 2012.

We have experienced a relatively quiet festive period, though the usual priority crimes for the police have still been taking place.

Just one of these crimes is one too many as far as we are concerned so, with burglary and vehicle crime being our priorities for the 2012, I am again repeating the advice for people to continue to take proper care of their property and to not leave valuables on display near doors or windows either at home or in cars.

I would like to see people making a New Year's resolution to check their home security and to make improvements in any weak areas they may have.

The Help and Advice section of our website contains lots of valuable information and people can also call the non-emergency number 101 and ask to be put in touch with their local crime reduction officer. Go to www.westyorkshire.police.uk
