A TAXI driver was assaulted by a passenger.

The 56-year-old was at Thornfield Road in Lockwood in the early hours of last Thursday, February 24, when the man grabbed him by the shirt and shoved him to the ground.

Fortunately, the victim suffered no injuries, but this was a very distressing experience and could have resulted in serious injury had he fallen awkwardly.

Assaults on taxi drivers are treated seriously by Kirklees divisional police.

We will not tolerate offences against people who are just doing their job and will pursue all lines of enquiry to bring offenders to justice.

The description of the suspect in this case is quite distinctive.

He was white, about 6ft tall, aged over 60 and had an Irish accent.

He was wearing a black coat and had white hair with ginger bits.
