WE are going to war with Huddersfield’s shoplifters.
They are a big concern at the moment and we are determined to crack down hard on them.
They are the focus again this week as six individuals who we want to speak to have all been placed on West Yorkshire Police’s Caught on Camera website.
These men have all been suspected of being involved in a crime taking place at shops, stores and off-licences across Huddersfield this month.
It is important that we catch up with them and detect the crimes that have been committed.
As I have said before, stealing from shops may not seem like the most serious crime in the world, but it seriously affects small businesses, more so now than perhaps ever before.
They are caught up in tough economic times and can ill afford to have to meet the costs of crime.
What is almost amusing, but also extremely infuriating is the brazen nature of the thieves, however.
The crimes in question have all been captured on security videos set up inside the targeted stores and I find it hard to believe that the suspects do not know that they will be caught on these camera systems.
So, they are either prepared to take a serious gamble, or think that the police aren’t that interested in catching them.
I have a message for them.
Let me tell you all now that this is not the case.
We take shoplifting and any theft extremely seriously.
Often in these cases though we really need the help of the public to pass us information on suspects so that we can not only arrest offenders, but ensure we can put them before the courts and see them punished appropriately.
That is why I am urging people to contact us if they know who is in the images.
I am also appealing for all those ‘armchair detectives’ out there to regularly visit our Caught on Camera web page and pass us any information that you think could help us fight crime.
