CRAZY golf and inflatable slides will form part of the Huddersfield Open Market’s festival of fun.

Two days of fun-filled activities will take place around the market area to celebrate the opening of a new cafe quarter.

The food court opened at the beginning of the month and market bosses hope the fun day will help show the market off to shoppers.

Newly-opened stalls at the market include an Italian delicatessen, the Pie Shed and local butchers and fishmongers.

All the activities will be free, with children’s roundabouts, inflatable slides and a rodeo rugby ball.

Clr Ken Sims, Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “These events are not only a way to attract new people to the market, but they are also a way for the council and traders to thank their loyal customers who visit each week and support their local market.

“It is important to us that the activities are free of charge so that everyone can take part and enjoy the day, without having to worry about costs during the long and somewhat expensive summer holidays.”

There will also be a fancy dress competition, with a television or sporting theme, with prizes for the best girl and boy aged under 14.

Entertainment will also be provided by street artists Poppets Puppets who perform old-fashioned puppet shows.

The events will take place next Monday and Tuesday, August 11 and 12, from 10.30am until 3.30pm at the Open Market.
