LAST Sunday I was appalled to see the Towngate car park in Holmfirth filled with a very nondescript selection of market stalls.

Twenty five years ago there was a friendly, busy Thursday market in Holmfirth, but the site was sold to build the Pioneer Store, leaving a derelict eysore in the bus station.

The Market was re-located to a disused car showroom, and trading there has dwindled. If there is a need for such a Sunday market, why not use this space?! We do not need another market filling up the small car park.

The shops in Holmfirth provide a wide range of goods for the locals, and plenty of gift shops and tea shops for the visitors.

Residents of Holmfirth already pay a great deal in council tax, and suffer from some of the worst roads in Kirklees. Isn't it about time that the wishes of those who live in Holmfirth were considered and we received something for our money?
