DENNIS and Betty Haigh (pictured) have celebrated their golden wedding.

The couple, of Cliffe Street, Clayton West, met at a dance at Scissett Baths and married at Huddersfield Register Office.

Mr Haigh, 69, worked down mines for 22 years.

He then worked as a driver for book distributors Woodfield and Stanley at Moldgreen for seven years and then at Shelley Textiles for 12 years.

He also worked as a market trader until he retired, selling Oriental rugs at Wakefield, Castleford and Hemsworth markets.

Mrs Haigh, 66, did home sewing and then worked a tufting machine at Shelley Textiles for 20 years.

She ran an Oriental carpet business in the Springfield Mills complex at Denby Dale for 10 years before she retired.

The couple have three daughters and three sons, 13 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren.

They celebrated with a party for family and friends.
