A HUDDERSFIELD sailor is a sure shot - and has got the trophy to prove it.

Jaimie Stead, from Mount, won the Queen's Medal for the champion shot in a skill-at-arms meeting between the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, in Bisley, Surrey.

Jaimie, 37, who serves with the Royal Navy, is only the ninth member of the Royal Navy to win the prestigious Queen's Medal.

Jaimie previously served in the RAF Regiment, securing RAF bases, for 12 years.

He has been in the Navy for five years and works in aircraft maintenance.

Jaimie, who is single, served in Iraq during both wars.

He went out in January this year on a supply ship and returned on Ark Royal.

He is stationed in Culdrose, Cornwall, and is the son of Maureen Stead.

Jaimie is a former pupil of Salendine Nook High School and Huddersfield Technical College.
