THIS was the terrifying moment armed robbers confronted a young man outside his home.
Three masked men – one armed with a machete, one with a Samurai sword and a third feared to be carrying a gun – were caught on CCTV launching the raid at the property near Marsden.
The recording shows them disabling a security light on the garage next to the house.
On the footage, which you can watch at www.examiner.co.uk, they disappear from view before returning for a further investigation.
The weapons can be seen glinting in the light cast by the house as they loiter in the dark during the incident, shortly before midnight on Sunday.
A 22-year-old man was at home with four friends, all in their early 20s, when they were confronted by the robbers, who brandished the weapons at them and demanded the keys to a top-of-the range 4x4 car.
He and his family have asked not to be named because of concerns for their security.
The man, whose parents were out at the time, said: “You don’t expect something like that to happen. It was scary. I feel like I don’t want to be alone in the house now.”
He and his friends were playing cards and watching television when they were alerted to the presence of someone outside by a beeper set off by motion sensors at about 11.40pm.
He said: “We looked outside and couldn’t see anything so sat back down.
“It can be set off by dogs and passing vehicles, so we didn’t really think anything of it.
“Then two of the lads went upstairs and the bleeper was going crazy.
“On the cameras you could see two lads were crouching down by the garage.”
The man and two of his friends, one armed with a golf club, went out to investigate.
He added: “I couldn’t see anything until I got to the corner of the garage.
“Then these guys started coming towards us and I just saw a flash of metal. One had a machete and one had a Samurai sword.
“The other had his hands in his trousers, like he was hiding a gun.
“They were pointing the weapons at us and saying, ‘Give us the keys, give us the keys.’”
The 22-year-old and his friends quickly retreated and locked themselves in the house before calling the police, who arrived within minutes.
The would-be robbers were forced to flee empty-handed and could be seen driving off in a car along Manchester Road.
It is thought two of them were white and one was black.
