ARSONISTS struck twice in the same part of Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning.

In the first attack, a wheelie bin was set alight on Back Eldon Road in Marsh, at the rear of KFC.

People living in the flats above the fast food restaurant managed to escape shortly after the blaze started around 3.25am today.

Two fire crews from Huddersfield and one from Elland were called to the scene.

Watch manager Andy Flynn said: "The fire damaged the back of KFC and the whole place was smoke-logged. There was quite a lot of damage."

The fire crews spent 45 minutes at the restaurant. Just as they were about to leave they received a report of a second fire further along Westbourne Road.

A white Vauxhall Vectra taxi was in flames on Lawrence Road, about 200 yards from the first fire.

Watch manager Flynn said: "The rear passenger window had been smashed and the car was torched. We spend about 30 minutes there but the car’s a write-off."
