A LEADING councillor has been selected to fight for his seat next year.

The Conservatives have picked Clr Martyn Bolt as their candidate in the Kirklees Council elections next May.

He said: “I’m grateful to my colleagues for their confidence and support and ever mindful of the immense trust they, and the people of Mirfield, place in us as their local representatives.”

Mr Bolt was reselected unanimously at a party meeting.

Mirfield Conservative chairman Pat Sutcliffe said: “There is no-one better than Martyn to represent us at next year’s election.

“His work record in Mirfield is undeniable and he is resolute in his defence of our town.”

Clr Bolt held the seat for the Conservatives in 2008 – winning 3,400 votes – a majority of more than 2,400.
