A teenager damaged a wardrobe at a house which police had called to be boarded up.

Matthew Wenzel, of Cowlersley Lane in Cowlersley, admitted criminal damage.

The 18-year-old appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said the offence was on June 23.

Police attended at an address at Manchester Road in Milnsbridge after a previous enquiry. The house was unlived in .

The officers found the door had been kicked in and after checking inside requested for the house to be secured by boarding it up.

They were on their way back to their vehicle when they noticed through a window that a man was inside and breaking a wardrobe.

Ms Schofield said: “They challenged him to come to the door. Mr Wenzel did and seemed to be drunk.”

Wenzel, who had no previous convictions, told magistrates: “It was a stupid thing after a couple of drinks – it shouldn’t have happened.”

Magistrates gave Wenzel a conditional discharge for six months, told him to pay £30 compensation, £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
