A woman whose dog savaged another pet at a beauty spot has been ordered to pay compensation to the owners.

The attack happened at Wolfstone Heights Woods in Upperthong on October 17.

The hurt border collie suffered a deep wound to her legs after a boerboel named Zeus ran up and suddenly attacked her.

Zeus’ owner Maxine Rattigan previously pleaded guilty to a charge of allowing her dog to be dangerously out of control.

The border collie was being walked by her owners in the woods when the mastiff-type dog, normally bred in South Africa, flipped her onto her back and bit her hind legs.

The dog’s male owner tracked down Rattigan, of Birmingham Lane in Meltham, down to her 4x4 parked nearby and told her about the attack.

The collie was left in a nervous state and had to have extensive medical treatment, including the fitting of a drain.

Kirklees magistrates heard that Zeus had previously attacked other dogs.

They made a dog control order to ensure that he is neutered and microchipped.

Today (April 14) Rattigan was also ordered to pay £274.35 compensation to the collie’s owners.

She was fined £50 and ordered to pay £50 court costs as well as £20 victim surcharge.
