THE Mayor of Kirklees has urged people to give blood – as she made her 50th donation.

Clr Julie Stewart-Turner reached the milestone at the Methodist Mission on Lord Street in Huddersfield town centre.

“Blood donors in Kirklees save hundreds of lives every month, but the need for donors never stops,’’ she said.

“I encourage people to give blood if they can. You never know when you or a loved one might need it.”

Craig Taylor from the National Blood Service praised Clr Stewart-Turner’s contribution.

He said: “We’d like to thank the mayor for her fantastic support. It takes real dedication to reach 50 donations.

“We always need new donors so I appeal to people not to leave it to someone else.”

Anyone aged over 17, weighing more than seven stones 12lbs and in good health can potentially become a donor.
