EIGHTY students who took part in five weekend courses to build a computer will receive certificates from the Mayor of Kirklees on March 22.

The aim was to help those taking part understand more about how computers work.

It was one of the first courses of its kind in the country and was run by a partnership called LEARN.org.uk.ltd

The courses were supported by Kirklees Council and secondary schools including Rawthorpe, and Westborough and Earls- heaton in Dewsbury.

Yusuf Mayet, LEARN director, said: "One of our aims is to engage young people in worthwhile projects. We find IT is a subject that is very popular.

"Young people get a great deal of enjoyment and gain relevant knowledge about computer technologies."

LEARN.org.uk.ltd was created in December by a group made up of former students, business people, community members and volunteers. It operates on a volunteer basis.
