REAL ale drinker Clr Donald Firth now has a beer which bears his name.

The Mayor's Brew has been specially created during his year of office, in aid of the Mayor's Charity Appeal.

Business partners Mike Field and Paul Klos of the Anglo Dutch Brewery created the beer after a chance meeting with Clr Firth some months ago.

"It's pretty lively, pale and quite hoppy, which quite accurately fits Donald's character," said Mike.

"We're delighted to have been able to create this one-off brew and hope it raises lots of cash for the Mayor's Appeal."

The beer, which is of average strength, is to go on sale at real ale pubs across Kirklees from next week.

The brewery has produced 360 gallons, with 10p from every pint sold going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Epilepsy Action.

Mike and Paul set up the brewery in Savile Town, Dewsbury, six years ago and now create half a dozen beers which are sold in independent free houses throughout West Yorkshire.

They also create one-off specialist beers such as this.

The new beer will be available in pubs and clubs throughout Kirklees including The West Riding at Dewsbury, The Station Tavern, The Slubbers' Arms, The Grove and Netheroyd and Cowcliffe Liberal Club.
