POSTMAN Pat loves having his trusty cat Jess by his side as he delivers the mail.

But one Huddersfield deliveryman was flabbergasted when he found a feline companion in his van when he dropped off goods around town.

The male tabby cat had found its way into the back of the van at one of his stops – but the driver is at a loss to guess where the cat started hitching a ride.

The long-haired cat was collected by an RSPCA officer.

It is now being cared for by staff at Donaldson and Partners veterinary surgery in Aspley.

They have appealed to Examiner readers to help solve the mystery and help reunite him with his owner.

Sharon Taylor, Donaldson vet’s head nurse, said: “He’s been with us for two days and he’s a lovely little cat so we’re keen to reunite him with his owners.

“He’s a neutered long-haired tabby and white cat with a white face and four white feet, probably eight or nine years old.

“He’s a very sweet cat and somebody must be missing him.”

Ms Taylor added: “It’s quite unusual and we’ve never had a cat that’s been found in the back of a van before.

“He obviously just wanted to go into town for a trip but then found himself unable to get back home again!”
