At just a year old, little Nellie Cade has to be one of the youngest ever lifetime members of a country show.

But that’s the honour she has been given by organisers of the Halifax Agricultural Show, along with the title ‘show baby’.

And mum Amy couldn’t have been more proud as she took Nellie back to the show on Saturday - just 12 months after she went into early labour by the sheep pens at the event in 2015.

“She was two weeks early and suddenly it was all happening. It was a real shock,” said Amy, 28, who went on to deliver Nellie safely in hospital.

Amy had gone to the show as usual, accompanied by husband Richard and Nellie’s sister, Connie. The family visit the event every year. “I grew up in the farming village of Norland and we are all really interested in animals and agricultural things. It’s a great day out,” said Amy, who lives in Sowerby Bridge.

When show officials heard about Nellie’s arrival, they tracked the family down via social media, taking flowers and a promise to make her a lifetime member to mark the occasion.

“They kept in touch and have done just that,” said Amy. “I am so proud. As well as the membership badge, they have also given her a special T-shirt and call her their show baby.

“Going back to the show this year was so special and brought back a lot of memories. I was quite emotional. What a difference a year makes - and in such a lovely way!”
