Gary Watkinson eats three plates of the stuff a day and reckons he has never eaten anything else – apart from when he’s abroad and he has to settle for chips.
But despite his crazy addiction doctors have told him he is perfectly healthy and has nothing to worry about.
Gary, 25, from Birchencliffe, said: “Ever since I can remember from when I was a kid I have only eaten beans, toast and chips.
“My mum used to give me plates of other food for me to try and I would just throw it on the floor. I would only eat beans.”
He said a recent story he read about a girl who died aged 22 from eating a similar diet prompted a doctor’s appointment for a medical check up.
“They took my blood sample but it all came back healthy”, Gary said. “They told me I was fine. I’m actually quite slim and only weigh 11 stone.”
He added: “I don’t eat fruit or veg or any other kind of carbs or cereal. I get up in the morning and have beans on toast for breakfast, then again for lunch and dinner.
“I don’t even have cheese on it. When I tell people they can’t believe it. The beans on toast thing has only been more recent though – before that it was just beans and toast separately.”
Gary, who is currently unemployed and lives with girlfriend Beth Hall, 20, and dog Kezzle, says his all-bean diet is even restricted to one particular brand, and he only drinks milk and water, too.
“I used to have Heinz beans with ketchup, but now I will only eat Branston. If someone gave me beans that were just Tesco value, I couldn’t eat it.
“I don’t know why I won’t eat anything else. I just never have and can’t stomach the thought of other foods.
“When I socialise with my mates and they all order pizza I don’t take part. They can’t understand it.”
Gary’s diet also expands to chips and he ate only that on a recent trip travelling in Indonesia.

“When you go abroad, beans just aren’t on the menu,” he said. “So when I go travelling I just eat chips. If I go into a fish and chip shop I always carry about £30 worth of cash on me so they don’t think I’m just a tramp ordering chips on their own.
“If I’m in a restaurant too, that’s all I’ll eat.”
Gary’s girlfriend Beth said: “It’s a nightmare. I didn’t believe him when we first started going out and he told me. I remember going on holiday to Ibiza and he couldn’t find anywhere that sold beans. Then he found this one shop that sold Branston’s beans on the other side of the island to where we were staying.
“We kept having to get a taxi there to stock up, it was so ridiculous. He won’t even try a plain cheese and tomato pizza. Friends have offered him £50 in the past to have a bite, but he just refuses.
“It’s very weird.”
Yvonne Wake, from the Nutrition Society, said: “Gary does actually eat food that contains a good amount of fibre so he is probably not constipated which can often lead to ill health and cancer. He gets fat from the beans, the toast, and the chips which will provide him with calories.
“So even though he is slim, he is still getting fat and energy from that fat. So the good news is that he probably can get by on that. His life will be limited in terms of energy, and he may not be very healthy. He has learned to manage his daily life so that he can survive on that diet.
“I would be concerned about his older years as he will need more padding to keep him warm and will need to increase his food intake then.
“Plus he will need to eat more vitamins, minerals and trace elements to avoid the ills that befall the elderly. His bones will be brittle and he will catch colds and flu.”
Yvonne added: “There are no antioxidants in his diet (apart from the Vitamin C in the tomato sauce in the baked beans), no fresh vegetables and fruit so he will probably have a very low immune system, so fighting off disease and colds and flu will obviously be a problem going forward.”
