HUDDERSFIELD’S MP plans to sound out people’s feelings over the plans for a new Tesco superstore in the town.

Barry Sheerman has arranged a public meeting for tomorrow for people to air their views on the plan, which centres on a deal with Kirklees Council to sell Huddersfield Sports Centre.

The plan would see a new Tesco store on the site, with a new sports centre being built at Springwood.

Mr Sheerman said: “I have grave concerns about the plans and have asked the council for details.

“They will not let me see the development agreement as they claim it is commercially sensitive”.

The meeting, open to all, is at 5pm at The Brian Jackson Centre, off Trinity Street.
