The Dalton ward of the Labour Party has selected former Kirklees Council leader Mehboob Khan’s sister, Musarrat Khan, to fight the seat in May.

Musarrat, known as ‘Mus’, is hoping to replace Clr Cliff Preest who is stepping down due to health reasons.

All three sitting councillors say they are delighted that members chose Musarrat as their candidate following a well-attended selection meeting.

Chairman Hilary Brooke said: “I believe members voted for her because of the knowledge about the ward and her approachable manner.”

Clr Peter McBride said: “I look forward to working with her” and Clr Preest said: “I am delighted as I know Musarrat is hardworking and very good on the doorstep”. Clr Naheed Mather added: “We will all miss having Cliff as a councillor, but I know that together we will continue the strong team that represents the people of Dalton.”
