THEY know what they want and bikers and skateboarders will soon get it.

Meltham youngsters joined organisers of a proposed BMX track to draw up the designs.

And they were clear in the direction and look of the facility, set to be created at the Robert Ashton Memorial Park.

Melvyn Gibson, of the Friends of Meltham Greenway, said: “We had a meeting with the young people and showed them what we’d come up with so far, but it’s not what they wanted.

“We were totally wrong, but it’s good that before we’ve even started putting pencil to paper we know exactly what they want.”

He said some of the youngsters, aged between 10 and 17, took along photographs and designs.

They asked for a combined BMX and skateboard track with ramps, similar in style to what has been created at Wellholme Park in Brighouse.

Another design session will take place on Tuesday, February 8, at 4pm at Meltham Fire Station. Anyone who wants to get involved can go along.
