NEIGHBOURS raised hundreds of pounds for charity with a garden party for the whole community.

Liz Philpott and Elaine Burke, from Meltham, open up their gardens on Heather Road every year to raise money for a good cause.

This year they are splitting the £1,357 they raised between Help for Heroes and local churches in Meltham.

Liz, an office manager at St Luke’s Hospital, said: “This year some of our other neighbours opened their gardens as well so we’re really grateful to them.

“We sold cream teas and there were jewellery stalls, and lots of people came over for a cup of tea and a chat.”
