ONE man remains in hospital after a police chase which almost ended in tragedy.

He was the driver of a BMW car which failed to stop after being challenged by officers in Wakefield in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The car ended up on its roof in a field near the National Mining Museum, close to Grange Moor, and two men were taken to hospital.

The driver, who remains in hospital, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The male passenger has been discharged from hospital and has also been bailed pending enquiries.

Neither has been named.

Wakefield Road was closed for several hours on Wednesday, causing misery for commuters who were diverted via Flockton.
