A DEDICATED mental health nurse was praised for four decades of hard work.

Karon Whitehead, 55, has now retired after working with the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for 39 years.

Karon, began her career as a cadet nurse in 1972 at Storthes Hall Hospital in Kirkburton.

After she completed her Mental Health Nurse training in 1978 she worked as a ward sister until the hospital closed in 1991.

After a stint at St. Luke’s Hospital, Huddersfield, she moved to the first mental health day service for older people at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

There she has worked as a care programme approach manager and community psychiatric nurse and more recently as an acute hospital liaison nurse.

She said: “I have enjoyed meeting a wide variety of people throughout my career, and I am very proud of the training and education given to staff within the Trust. I have made many friends and worked with some outstanding and dedicated staff.”

In her retirement, she is looking forward to working on her family history, walking and photography.
