AN 82-year-old man who vanished from Dewsbury may have gone to Liverpool.

And the desperately worried family of 82-year-old George Hazelhurst have made an anguished plea for help to find him.

He went missing from his home in Walker Street, Thornhill Lees, on December 20.

He was last seen at about 2pm that day.

Since then, police have carried out detailed searches of areas, using dogs, the force helicopter, house-to-house inquiries and mountain rescue teams.

It has now emerged that Mr Hazelhurst is known to enjoy travelling on buses and there is a possibility he could have visited the Wallasey or New Brighton areas of Liverpool.

His daughter, Kathleen Bates, has asked anyone who may have seen him to contact police immediately.

She said: "We would ask anyone with information regarding my father to come forward. Please let the police know if you think you may have seen him or have any information - no matter how insignificant you think it might be.

"We love him dearly and miss him very much. We just want him to come home," she added.

Mr Hazelhurst had only recently moved into sheltered accommodation in Thornhill Lees after leaving Earls- heaton, about two miles away.

When last seen he is believed to have been wearing navy blue trousers, a grey patterned jumper, tan shoes and possibly a dark jacket.
