DOG owners are being offered the chance to get their pets microchipped to help if they become lost or stolen.

Kirklees Dog Warden service is hosting the event at Greenhead Park on July 17. The session will run from 10am to 2pm and microchipping will be available for £5 and those with proof of low incomes or benefits can get their pet chipped for free.

The event will take place at the bottom of the memorial steps (closest to the bowling green).

Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and are painlessly inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique number and details are stored on a national data base which can be read by animal enforcement officers.Go to: www.kirklees.gov.uk/dogs or ring 01484 221199.
