A VIDEO games store in Huddersfield is set to open at midnight on Thursday - to be the first in the town to sell the latest in games systems.

Gamestation on New Street expects customers to be queuing at the door to get their hands on the eagerly awaited Nintendo DS hand-held console.

The new games system goes on sale in the UK on Friday, after proving a massive hit in the USA.

The console - selling at £99.99 - has several new features. These include two screens and the option of voice recognition, allowing players to give commands to the characters in their games.

The system allows gamers to compete head-to- head with up to 15 friends or play against others anywhere in the world over the internet.

It also allows users to play their existing Nintendo Game Boy Advance titles.

Store manager Dee Armstrong said: "The Nintendo DS is perhaps the most innovative new console launched in the last 10 years, with a huge list of features to attract gamers.

"Some of the games for this console are already destined to become internet classics."

She added: "It is going to be a lot of fun opening at midnight.

"Gamers have been talking about little else than the new console.

"We have lots of excited customers already placing their orders."
