MILK should not only be served cool - it is cool at Shelley High School.

It is the first school in Kirklees to have a new milk bar serving chilled milk, milk shakes and flavoured water.

The bar, which will be called The White Stuff, is aimed at encouraging students to swap sugary, fizzy drinks for milk, a healthy, fresh product.

Lynne Gilbert, marketing officer for Kirklees schools' catering service, said: "Milk is full of vitamins and protein. It is also a 90% of water which makes it a useful products for rehydration."

Mrs Beverly Stapleton, head of kitchen at the Shelley school, said: "It's a very trendy black and white bar and the milk comes in black fast-food type cups with a straw with The White Stuff printed on the outside.

"We have stopped selling fizzy drinks at the school and the school is going for a Healthy School award.

"We are hoping that this new milk bar will help us towards that goal."

Milk costs 40p and the milk shakes cost 45p.
