A VETERAN mill worker has retired in Huddersfield after nearly four decades' service.
John Aitken's colleagues marked his last day of work at Brierley's Mill yesterday by presenting him with a bottle of whisky and glasses.
The 64-year-old production director paid tribute to his workmates at the Quay Street mill in Turnbridge.
He said: "They are all lovely people and some of them have been friends for a long time."
Mr Aitken, who started as assistant mill manager at Brierley's on New Year's Day 1968, has seen many changes.
The father-of-one said: "We have introduced a lot of new machinery in during my time and that has helped us increase efficiency."
The Fixby man now plans to spend more time with his wife Margaret, as well as visiting friends abroad and walking in the Dales.
