A HUDDERSFIELD man escaped jail after being found with a bottle of whisky down his trousers.
Zifiso Mashengele, 27, of Tintern Avenue, Milnsbridge, pleaded guilty to theft at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court after a security guard in Sainsbury’s discovered a bottle of expensive whisky down his trousers in November.
Mike Sisson-Pell defending said: “This man had already been drinking and found himself in the supermarket looking at various items.
“He saw a bottle of whisky which had a very attractive looking box.
“It was valued at £31 and after taking it out of the box, he hid it down his trousers.”
Mashengele was due to appear in court for the crime in December but having waited three hours to be seen by magistrates, he feared he would miss his bus to London.
He returned from the capital, after spending time with his family, at 12pm yesterday and handed himself straight into the police station.
Yesterday at court in Huddersfield he was given a fine of £65 and also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £15.
