AN Elland church has a new minister.

The Rev Malcolm Brown, 56, was inducted as the new minister of Upper Edge Baptist Church.

The church has been without a leader since its former minister retired last February.

Mr Brown's induction service was led by the Rev Stephen Moore, chaplain at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The act of induction was by the Rev Ernie Whalley, regional Baptist minister for Yorkshire.

The preacher at the service was the Rev Jonathan Burrow, minister at Arthur Rank House, a hospice in Cambridge.

Mr Brown's wife, Colleen, and their four children were at the event. Mr and Mrs Brown moved to Carr Green Drive at Rastrick, last Wednesday.

But their children have not joined them in the area.

Mr Brown and his family previously lived at Saffron Walden in Essex, where he was minister of the Baptist church.

He said: "We have met quite a few members of the Elland congregation so far.

"I am looking forward to being here and sharing the church with the community."
