AS the world’s eyes focus on the Tour de France local eyes are turning to the premiere of a film about local cycling stalwarts.

Cyclists from Mirfield will attend the premiere of Mirfield’s Cycling Heritage, a documentary celebrating the achievement of local people in the field of professional cycling.

Stars attending the event and appearing in the film include Brian Robinson, the first British cyclist to win a stage of the Tour de France, Lisa Brambani, who represented Britain in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and fellow professional cyclists Des Robinson, Albert Hitchen and Louise Robinson.

The event will be hosted by Mirfield councillor Martyn Bolt at Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form on Kitson Hill Road.

The film was funded by the former Mirfield Area Committee and produced by RayFilms.

Former area committee chair, councillor Vivien Lees-Hamilton, said: “We have a fantastic history of achievement in competitive cycling in Mirfield.

“The documentary was funded to capture the achievements of those local people who through dedication and ambition made it to the top of their chosen sporting fields.

“We invite all local residents to attend the premier and be inspired.”

Admission is free to the July 20 event.

Doors open at 6.45 and the film will start rolling at 7pm. Afterwards there will be a question and answer session with the stars of the film.
